"Investing in Children for Eternity"

Lutheran Schools Development Center

Unit #3 -Annual Fund: CAP Program “Coaching Administrators and Principals"

How will your school be supported?  You go to people who believe in your mission.

How do you raise money?  It’s fairly simple: You ask them for support!

However, what is the right way of asking for support.

What is the right purpose?

When is the right time?

What is the right way?

What is the right amount?

Who is the right person to ask?

This is explained in the Annual Fund Unit.

Subscribers to this module will also receive, at no cost, either copy of Robert Rogalski’s new book explaining a step-by-step plan to initiate the Annual Fund: Where’s The Money?  (Elementary and High Schools ) or Five Loaves and Two Fishes  (Early Childhood Centers and Preschools).

MODULE

INCLUDES

301: Understanding Development  & Fundraising

Fundraising is attracting money through selling products or holding an event. Development is building relationships. You attract people and people attract money.

302: Training Volunteer Leaders

The administrator is not the point person. Job descriptions define the volunteer team need for success.

303: Setting Financial Goals

Setting an attainable goal depends on several influencing factors.

304: Planning the Calendar

A monthly timetable of events sets the stage for an orderly progression and keeps the team on track.

305: Writing a Case Statement

It tells why the school deserves support. It stresses the need for annual gifts for the Annual Fund.

306: Identifying Donors

Each school has a basic list of prospects. This list must be expanded and broadened instead of always replying on the “same old few.”

307:Completing a Mail Appeal

This is the “meat and potatoes” of the Annual Fund.

308: Conducting a Phonathon

The telephone is one of the most successful methods of raising money. It is a highly effective, low-cost way to reach a large number of targeted people in a short period of time.

309: Asking for Money

This is consistently produces more and larger donations than through the mail or over the phone.

310: Locating Major Donors

Finding, asking and thanking them are vital to the success of the Annual Fund campaign.

311: Showing Appreciation

Giving appreciation and expressing thanks is an extremely important aspect to the program.

312: Keeping Records

Maintaining exact records of giving prepares the school for future success.

* If you are at the beginning steps of a more complete financial development program it’s recommended to select these prerequisite modules.

"Today, Solomon Lutheran School still has a lot of work to do to eliminate the financial burden, but the direction Solomon needs to go is now clear and on track.  Our committees will continue to work together because of his direction." - Jan Busdeker, Solomon Lutheran School, Christian Day School Committee
